Today, March 9, 2025, I am Pejman Mirzaei.
Mehdi Yarrahi’s 74-lash sentence was carried out on March 5, 2025. Mehdi Yarrahi, an engaged and popular singer who stood with the Mahsa movement and the protesters, was sentenced to prison and 74 lashes in August 2023 for his political activity and singing the song “Roosarito” (Your scarf) in protest against the mandatory hijab.
Cultural and artistic activists were targeted for repression from the very beginning under the mullahs' regime, but the execution of Mehdi Yarrahi's whipping sentence just a few days before International Women's Day was not only a repression of cultural and artistic activists, but also of women's rights activists.
This sentence was carried out while media outlets close to the Revolutionary Guard claimed that Mehdi Yarrahi’s whipping sentence was due to “possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages,” and in this way, they tried to justify this inhumane sentence to public opinion and the minority that supported the regime.
But another reason for the execution of the whipping sentence on a singer like Mehdi Yarrahi, which, as expected, caused widespread reactions in domestic and foreign media and at various levels of society, is to heighten public discontent and justify a possible Israeli attack on Iran's territory.
This can be clearly seen in the posts of official Israeli accounts and their cyber army and in current news.
The animated film "In the Shadow of the Cypress" by Shirin Sohani and Hossein Molayemi, which tells the story of the consequences of the Iran-Iraq war, won an Oscar at the 2025 Oscars ceremony. The reaction of one of the Israeli cyber army accounts, which is followed by official Israeli accounts, to the Oscar of this anti-war film was an old post by Elon Musk from May 2024, which showed a scene of a bombing in Tehran. The account, referring to the Israeli attack on Iran, asked the audience to write their opinion.
Simultaneously with the execution of Mehdi Yarrahi's flogging sentence on Arbor Day in Iran, the same account posted a photo of the regime's leader and said, "When do you want to overthrow this regime? Khamenei and his evil regime destroyed Iran." In this way, Israel tries to anonymously influence public opinion and show the Iranian people as incapable of changing the regime and attacking Iran as the savior of the Iranian people. In addition to real individuals and official accounts, the Israeli army has thousands of anonymous accounts in various forms on social networks and leads and controls the political atmosphere related to Iran. Some of these accounts are also used to trap opponents of the mullahs’ regime during protests with targeted calls for demonstrations.
Khomeini was a puppet of Israel and the mullahs' regime is led by them and implements their dictated policies. The suppression of women and the compulsory hijab are also dictated to this regime. This regime's hostility to Iranian symbols, culture, and art shows the non-independent and anti-national nature of this regime.
During the Mahsa movement and when the power of the repressive forces of the mullahs' regime had decreased due to the prolonged protests, the fake opposition outside Iran that carried the Israeli flag and is connected to Israel, advised the protesters in Iran a break to restore the power of the repressive forces of the mullahs' regime. Israel suppresses and commits crimes with the complicity of this regime and deceives the Iranian people and public opinion by criticizing the regime. This year, we saw how Israel, with the complicity of this regime, marginalized the anniversary of the Iranian people's movement after the murder of Mahsa or Jina Amini and the anniversary of the deaths of this movement in Iran in various ways.
Israel's goal in a possible attack on Iran or in drawing the US into a war in Iran is to destroy Iran and Iranian national assets, further weaken the Iranian people, and even disintegrate Iran. For years, Israel has invested in the division of Iran with policies such as more severe repression of Iranian ethnic groups with the complicity of the regime, deception of the regime's opponents, and control of the opposition. It must be repeated again that Israel and the Zionists encourage mullahism and radicalism and are enemies of Iran and Iranians, and they placed this regime at the top of power in Iran and are guiding and supporting it to exploit, destroy, de-civilize, humiliate, and annihilate Iran and Iranians.
Israel, by guiding the mullahs' regime, having hundreds of political activists and a cyber army in its hands, and controlling the opposition and the media, can use propaganda to justify an attack on Iran to public opinion. For example, by eliminating one or more members of the regime's officials who are petty puppets in Israel's hands, they can pretend that their destructive goals were positive and in the interest of the Iranian people.
On the other hand, the mullahs' regime's response to the destruction of Iran and Iranian national assets will be propaganda, calling the destruction of Iran a victory and speaking of authority and resistance.
The cost of every attack is paid by Iran and the Iranian people, and apart from the destruction and its consequences, it causes priorities to change, all issues related to human rights and freedom to be sidelined, and it makes it easier to suppress the opposition. Let's look at the consequences of the Iran-Iraq War, which Khomeini launched at the behest of Israel and for their interests, and by encouraging the Iraqi people and army to revolt against Saddam. The Iran-Iraq War, in which Israel provided the regime with weapons and military assistance, was also used to stabilize the regime, suppress the opposition, and legalize the oppression of women by enacting mandatory hijab in 1983.
Collective awareness and talk about Israel's role behind the scenes of the regime reduces the cost of change in Iran and increases its speed.
Mehdi Yarrahi wrote after the execution of the flogging sentence, " Those who are not willing to pay for freedom do not deserve freedom."
